WHO IS REQUIRED TO UNDERGO FEDERAL DOT TESTING?

Federal DOT drug and alcohol testing are mandatory for all workers that fall under the six safety-sensitive agencies outlined by DOT.

These agencies include:
● Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA)
● Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)
● Federal Transit Administration (FTA)
● Federal Railroad Administration (FRA)
● United States Coast Guard (USCG)
● Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA)

Many subject to federal DOT testing include employees of private businesses, governments, and other organizations who have a commercial driver’s license (CDL) or perform transportation services as part of their job. This can include for-hire motor carriers, private motor carriers, commercial vehicle owners and/or leasers, churches, civic groups, or anybody who utilizes a commercial vehicle.

WHEN IS FEDERAL DOT TESTING NEEDED?

A variety of situations require Federal DOT drug and alcohol testing, such as following an accident involving one of your employees (post-accident), when you have reason to believe an employee is abusing drugs or alcohol (reasonable suspicion), and when an employee goes back to work after failing a DOT drug or alcohol test (return-to-duty/follow-up testing). Most companies are also required by the federal DOT to undertake random drug and alcohol testing.

Fastest Labs Plano offers extensive testing services to assist you in being DOT-compliant in accordance with federal requirements. We perform a wide range of tests to satisfy your specific requirements, including legally mandated breathalyzer tests, urine, skin/sweat, finger and toe nail, and hair testing.
